William (Bill) Earl Mullinix, 94, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Lorien Assisted Living/Rehab Center, Mount Airy, Maryland, where he resided for the last 5-1/2 years. He was formally a long time resident of Cedar Grove, Maryland.  Bill was born in Cedar Grove on January 16, 1923 to the late Alby and Janet Windsor Mullinix. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn King Mullinix and his only sibling, Leonard Mullinix and wife Roberta.

Bill graduated from Damascus High School in 1941.  He was a lifetime and active member of Salem United Methodist Church where he held many positions and sang in the church choir for years. He was a member of the Damascus Travel Club and enjoyed traveling with that group to many special places. He retired from Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) as a Supervisor for the

Renovation/Remodeling Shop in 1981 after 33 years of service. Before going to MCPS, he operated the country store in Cedar Grove and worked in the maintenance department for the Bethesda Naval Hospital. After his retirement from MCPS, he worked for several years for Butler's Orchard. He was an avid Orioles Fan knowing about every game and all the players over the years. He was also a big fan of anything chocolate and his favorite meal of fried oysters, going to all the local dinners when he was able.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Boyd Mullinix, two daughters, Janet Elaine Runkles and husband Roger, and Debbie Lowman of Damascus, two grandsons, Michael Runkles and wife Leanne of Monrovia, and Jeffrey Lowman of Mt.Airy, and two great-granddaughters, Paige and Ashley Runkles of Monrovia. Also survived by two nieces, Brenda Beall and husband Jimmy, and Peggy Cramer, and one nephew Larry Mullinix and wife Jan.  He was preceded in death by a nephew, Wayne Mullinix.

He is also survived by five step-daughters and their husbands, and 10 step grandchildren.

Friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 on Tuesday, February 7, 201 at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Salem Church Cemetery.

The family wants to thank the entire staff at Lorien Assisted Living/Rehab Center for the wonderful, compassionate, and friendly care they gave to Bill and his family over the years. They also want to thank the Gilchrist Hospice Group for their outstanding services they provided to Bill and his entire family and friends while he was in their care.

Pallbearers will be:  Roger Runkles, Michael Runkles, Dale Lowman, Jeffrey Lowman,Jimmy Beall,Gary Flook, and Fred Laudwein.  Honorary pallbearer is Larry Mullinix.
