Roger A. Crawford
January 6, 2018Roger A. Crawford, 76, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away in the early hours of January 6, 2018. Born September 13, 1941 in Newark, New Jersey, a son of the late Milton and Helen Moxley Crawford. He was the younger brother of the late Donald Crawford.
Mr. Crawford served in the United States Navy, as a Store Keeper Third Class, from 1959 to 1962. Upon his release from active duty, Mr. Crawford relocated to Maryland and secured a position with C & P Telephone Company in Gaithersburg, which eventually became part of AT&T in 1970.
In this position he received the 1980 AT&T Ingenuity Award, which was presented to Mr. Crawford at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. He was recognized for repurposing AT&T equipment to fulfill a Federal Aviation Administration contract that kept the vital organization operating until improved equipment was procured. After 28 years with the company, Mr. Crawford retired as the National Service Manager in support of the FAA. He then went to work for Denro Corporation in Gaithersburg as a Logistics Manager overseeing the making of new equipment for the FAA.
After leaving Denro, Mr. Crawford moved to Venice, Florida where he lived for several years and worked as an all-purpose handyman before returning to Maryland to be near his children and grandchildren. Mr. Crawford spent his final years with family and many friends.
He is survived by his daughter Angela Konietzko, and sons, Kevin and Shannon Crawford, his grandchildren Brandon Crawford and Emily Konietzko and his former spouse, Anne Crawford.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, at Mount Airy Full Gospel Church, 13949 Penn Shop Road, Mount Airy, Maryland 21771.
