Betty J. Barnard (Sweetness), age 81, of Mount Airy, Maryland, died Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was wife of the late James Barnard, Jr. who died in 1994.

Born July 12, 1935 in Frederick, Maryland she was a daughter of the late Frank J. and Francis Irene Dixon McClain.

She was retired as an Inpatient Supervisor with Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. A life member of VFW Post 10076, Mount Airy, Md., The Mount Airy Gun Club, Life Member of Mount Airy American Legion, and she enjoyed watch trap shooting.

Surviving her are three children: Curtis Barnard and his wife Carol; Debra Genthner and husband Jim; and Brenda Kelly. Two sisters: Catherine Burall and Mary Finger; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild

She is preceded in death by son Craig McClain.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 30 at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 1, at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, 2145 McKendree Road, West Friendship, Maryland. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
