Yasmin (Jasmine) Romero Gregory, age 69 of Damascus, MD passed away on June 03, 2024, at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center surrounded by her family. Coming from an Army family, she was born at the US Army-Air Base Hospital in Bordeaux, France on September 17, 1954. Jasmine is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Scott Gregory, parents Salomon & Maria Romero, and Mother-in-law Diane Gregory. Jasmine is survived by her son & daughter-in-law William (Scott) and Colleen Gregory and her 7 & 8-year-old Granddaughters Brooke & Shelby of Westminster, Maryland. Jasmine also leaves behind sisters; Sonia, Miriam, Yolanda, Caroline, and brother Benjamin. Jasmine also leaves behind her father-in-law and step mother-in-law Bruce & Paula as well as many aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
After spending her childhood living on US Military installations in Alaska, Massachusetts, and Kansas, Jasmine graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland.
After marrying the love of her life and late husband Douglas (Scott) Gregory in Silver Spring, MD they moved to Damascus, MD where she met many neighbor friends which eventually became part of her family. Two of which (Kathy & Mike Giles) became her only son’s God parents.
With her mother and father’s families from Puerto Rico she was incredibly proud to be of Hispanic descent (especially Puerto Rican!) As a child, her father frequently took Jasmine and her siblings camping, hunting, and fishing. These family activities eventually turned into some of her lifelong passions. Jasmine’s favorite activities were spending time in nature, camping, and going to the beach. Jasmine’s house in Damascus was the go-to party spot for family and friends to get together and celebrate birthdays, holidays (especially Halloween), or just because. She also loved spending time in her garden growing her own herbs, vegetables, and flowers. After tragically losing her husband Scott in March 2009 and her son being deployed to Iraq for his second tour as a Soldier in the US Army she developed an interest in crafting; which included adult coloring, making jewelry, resin crafts, and painting.
Another one of her passions was her work. As the Business Manager for Rockville Interiors in Rockville, Md she did the equivalent work of what would normally be the responsibility of about 10 employees at any other similar company. She was so dedicated to the company that she was still training her assistant via phone and Zoom calls, completing payroll, and various other tasks during her multiple stays admitted at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Jasmine and the owner of the company Tom Fulop eventually became very close friends and eventually part of her family. After her many years of service the ongoing success and stellar reputation of the company is a direct result of Jasmine’s 30 years of dedication and hard work.
All of her family and friends described her as sweet, beautiful, a hard worker and most of all - kind. She never forgot a name, a face, a birthdate, or any other small detail about a person. She could make friends with just about anyone. Her son’s childhood and adult friends even called her “Momma Jazz.” Truly a testament to the kind of person she was.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 16th for 2 separate viewings from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home (26401 Ridge Road, in Damascus, MD.) The funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, June 17th at St. Paul Catholic Church (9250E Damascus Rd, Damascus, MD 20872.) Following the service the interment will take place at 1pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery (13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD.)
