William G. Melton

William Gregg Melton "Merl", age 68, of Mount Airy Maryland, passed away on May 7, 2026. He was surrounded by his children and his faithful canine companion of 14 years, Toby.

Born on January 12, 1958 in Union, South Carolina to William Kilgore Melton and Martha Walden Melton.
Gregg graduated from Damascus High School in 1976. He was a partner in the family business, Melton's Trading Post from 1982-1997. In the early 2000's until 2020, he worked for several construction companies. He was a skilled carpenter, excavator, and could fix just about anything. He was a jack of all trades and a very hard worker.

During his retirement, he devoted his work to a successful business of splitting and selling firewood. He met many people and made many friends throughout the community. He loved fishing, spending time with his children, and his dog Toby.
Gregg is survived by his three children and their spouses, son William Gavin Melton and Stephanie Birth; daughter Emily Lynn Lanigan and Matthew Lanigan; son Travis Leland Melton and Gabriella DelPo; two brothers, Benjamin Kilgore Melton and wife Deborah Melton; Gene Walden Melton and wife Cindy Melton. He is proceeded in death by both of his parents.

A visitation will be held at Molesworth Williams P.A. Funeral Home - 26402 Ridge Road Damascus, MD 20872, on Monday May 11th from 2pm-4pm and 5pm-7pm.
The services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday May 12th at 11am. An interment will be held at Montgomery United Methodist Church following the services.
