William L. Betteker Obituary

WILLIAM (BILLY) LEE BETTEKER

William (Billy) Lee Betteker, 57, passed away very unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 24, at his home in Germantown, Maryland.  He was the son of the late Robert E. and Margaret V. Betteker.

Billy was a fun loving and entertaining guy and always had a way of making people laugh. He enjoyed cooking, watching sports and followed the Ohio State Buckeyes, Baltimore Ravens and Washington Capitals.  He had an undying love for music which led him to start playing drums from a very young age and became a very talented drummer. He was a member of the rock band Bad Penny back in the 90’s and had many funny stories from his days of playing music at all the local clubs. He truly enjoyed his yearly trips to Myrtle Beach with Theresa and the kids, and his trips to Hatfield-McCoy Trails in West Virginia camping and four wheeling with some lifelong friends. His latest passion was riding his Harley Davidson through back country roads and listening to music. He always said it was his therapy.

He worked many years in construction as a crane operator and also drove a dump truck at F.O. Day where he was proud to be a truck driver like his father who drove a Peterbilt semi. He made a lot of friends there; however, he was very excited to start his new job with MDOT in Montgomery County. This new job was all he would talk about to anyone that would listen.

Billy will be immensely missed by his girlfriend of 10 years, Theresa Reed and her kids Brendan Gauss and Bridget Gauss whom have grown very close to him and grew up with him in their lives. He always said he loved them as if they were his own.

He mentioned to Theresa that he wanted people to remember him by the song ‘Listen to the Music’ by the Doobie Brothers when he was gone. Please honor him by playing this song and smiling as he did everytime he heard it.

He is survived by his daughter Lindsey Weaver; his siblings Barbara Keith (Tom); Carolyn Abedrabbo (Anwar); Terry Paskey (Jeff) Robert Betteker, and Donald Betteker in addition to many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
