Veda R. McComb Obituary

Veda Rodgers McComb, age 100, died Monday, September 29, 2025, at her home at Leisure World in Silver Spring, Maryland in the arms of her loving daughter Lola.


Veda was born to Clarence and Lola Packer Rodgers in1925 in Madison, Wisconsin. She received a B.A. degree in French from American International College where she met her husband, James McComb Jr., a football and ice hockey star. An elegant and refined woman, Veda enjoyed reading, travel, crosswords and gardening, and was a talented violinist.


She was predeceased by her husband James McComb Jr. and is survived by her daughter Lola. Interesting historical note: Veda was a great granddaughter of Philip Packer of Groombridge Place, Groombridge, England, who was a courtier to King Charles II, barrister, architect, Fellow of The Royal Society of London and a godson of The Duke of Buckingham. The Groombridge Place estate was featured in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice as the home of the Bennet family.


Services and interment will be private.
