Theodore (Ted) Samakouris

Theodore Samakouris “Ted”, 94, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, surrounded by family.  He was born February 1, 1929, to Themistocles and Despina Stagoulis Samakouris.  He grew up in Highlandtown, a Greek community in Baltimore, Maryland.  Ted graduated from Patterson Park High School in Baltimore, Maryland (now Patterson High School) and graduated from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in 1953 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He married the love of his life, Esther Clare Rice, January 30, 1953.

Playing football was a passion of Ted’s.  His prowess and good sportsmanship earned him the 1948 McCormick Unsung Hero Award and a full football scholarship to Western Maryland College. Ted served in the U.S. Army as a rifle range instructor and was a member of the boxing team.  He went into heating and air conditioning sales/ management for several companies: Robertshaw, Pierce and Associates, and Combustioneer, A Division of John J. Kirlin (EMCOR Services Combustioneer). Ted had a very strong work ethic, retiring at the age of 83.

Family and church were very important to Ted.  For years he served as an usher and was on the building committee for Damascus United Methodist Church.  He loved spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always providing support, guidance and love.

He is survived by his four daughters: Cathryn Roberts (Jerry, deceased), Deborah Lambooy (Peter), Esther LaMaster (David), and Margaret Hauptman (Victor) and Cousin Angelo Stamoolis (Donna).  He was predeceased by his parents, wife Esther, and his brother, Christopher Samakouris.

He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren:  Heather Hughes (Patrick), Jennifer Andrews, Rebekah Lambooy, David Lambooy (Briana), Samuel Lambooy (Andrea), Sarah Morris (Jason), Deborah Hunt (Wally), Rachel Gish, Thomas LaMaster, Kimberly Martin (Joe), and Matthew Hauptman.  He was blessed with twenty great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872.

Following a family service that will be held at Boyer Chapel, friends and family are invited to share in the celebration of Ted’s life at Damascus United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.
