Ruby L. Phillips

Ruby Lee Phillips, age 92, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 12, 2021 at her home in Wheaton, Maryland.

Born August 6, 1928 in Frederick, Maryland a daughter of the late Golden and Rhodie Moxley of Kemptown, Md., where she was raised with her older sister June.

Ruby graduated from Frederick High School in 1945.  She met Ashby Phillips from Broadway, Virginia at the Farmer’s Market in Washington, D.C. where she would go with her mother to help her with selling their eggs, flowers, baked goods and produce from their farm.

Ruby and Ashby were married at her home in Kemptown on Christmas Day 1946.  They were married for 58 years until his passing in 2004.

Ruby loved to travel.  She loved going to the beach and enjoyed being in the mountains.  They had many travel trailers over the years and had visited almost all 50 states, including driving to Alaska in 1966.  In later years she loved the trips to Florida each winter and they would pick tomatoes and strawberries to bring back home.

She was a terrific homemaker and was always baking and cooking big meals and having people over.  “The more, the merrier” she would always say. She loved the big garden they had and would freeze and can vegetables for the winter.

She loved her cats too!  And was never without having one, four or five.  She was known as the “Cat Lady”, and probably had over thirty five cats in her lifetime. 

She was always proud of her family and life, and the things she was able to do.  She loved everyone and everyone loved her.  She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her children Allan, Wade, Vicky, and son-in-law Ed Testerman.  Five grandchildren: Jason, Austin, Kristin,  April, Jesse and his wife Grace.  Two great grandchildren:  Emily and Parker (Jesse and Grace’s children).

Friends may call 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Friday, June 18 at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Md. 20872  Graveside funeral services and interment will be 12:45 p.m. following visitation, in Providence Methodist Cemetery, Kemptown, Md.
