Robert Lee Sands, 88 of Mt. Airy, MD passed away in hospice care at Frederick Health Hospital on Sunday, August 4, 2024. He was the son of German and Virginia Sands of North Carolina.

He was predeceased by his wife Ellen Louise Sands who passed away on April 26, 2001.

He is survived by his four children, Dawn Rene Smith of Inwood, West Virginia, Scott Roland Sands of Mt. Airy, MD, Alan Wade Sands of Mt. Airy, MD and Corey Mathew Sands of Mt. Airy, MD. He is also survived by two grandchildren Deanna Smith and Anthony Smith.

He served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps in the mid-1950s. He worked for the David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center
in Bethesda, MD until he retired in 1995. He was a passionate animal lover, especially his own pets.
He also enjoyed classic western movies and old tv shows.
He was a very likable person who made friends easily but preferred spending time with his family.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Molesworth Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, in Damascus, MD 20872.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 12 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, MD. At 2:30 p.m.
