Robert O'Leary Obituary

Robert J. O'Leary was 77 years old, a graduate of Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken. NJ. He started his Engineering Career with the Pennsylvania Railroad through the transition to Conrail where he retired as Assistant Chief Engineer - Program Maintenance.

Robert was caring and giving and wanted to always give back, especially to his community. He continued after retirement contributing to his community by being a part of the Tredyffrin Planning Commission for 15 years and served as head of the group for five of those years. He was also on the Chester County Parks and Recreation Commission and Chester Valley Trails and served and advised on many formal and informal groups in Chester County, PA. When he moved in 2014, the Pennsylvania Senate and Congress passed resolutions commending him for his many years of volunteer services. Even after moving to Maryland, he was contacted numerous times for his guidance and vision on events going on in the township and county.

Robert was an avid traveler and was always know to be planning a trip or two with his wife Laurie. They experienced many wonderful countries and cities and even some amazing trips to Disney!  He loved to experience it all and share his adventures with friends and family.  Robert also loved his trains.  From exhibits and shows to painting and building elaborate train layouts.  The amount of love and attention he put into his layouts could be seen and felt and it truly was a privilege to experience his creations.  Most importantly, he loved his friends and family.  He cared for everyone, wanted to make sure they were in a positive direction, whether it be career, family or life in general.  He had an abundance of knowledge and guidance that he loved to share and truly got joy out of others happiness.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie O’Leary, his eldest son Kevin O’Leary, his wife Kim and 2 grandsons, Kevin and Kyle, his son Kenneth O’Leary and son Ross Mackey and his wife Denitz and three grandchildren Lara, Aydin and Kam. He is also survived by some of his dearest lifelong friends.  He will be forever missed by family and so many friends making the memories that he loved to do.

Private services will be on Monday, August 10, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, a charitable contribution maybe made in his honor to the MDS Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
