Robert "Bob" Bellison Obituary

Robert “Bob” Bellison, 93, of Damascus, Maryland passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, surrounded by his beloved wife of over 71 years and his three daughters. Bob was born September 10, 1931, to the late Norman and Jennie Bellison.


Bob graduated from Shepherd College where he also played baseball. He later received his Masters in Education from the University of Maryland. He served in the US Army during the Korean war where he was stationed in Germany.


Bob was a teacher, guidance counselor and coach for the Montgomery County Public Schools for 32 years. After his retirement from MCPS, he worked for the Baltimore Orioles association first as the Assistant General Manager for the Frederick Keys and then as an Orioles Scout in the Mid-Atlantic area. During this time, he also served as a coach and mentor for the Oriolelanders Prospect Team, an Instructor at the Cal Ripken Baseball School and managed and coached the Damascus American Legion Post 171 Legion baseball team.


Bob was a member of the Mid-Atlantic Baseball Scouts Association, Maryland Professional Baseball Association, and Washington Slow Pitch Hall of Fame. He was an Honorary Life Member of American Legion Post 171, member of Mount Airy VFW Post 10076 and the Damascus United Methodist Church.


Bob is survived by the love of his life, Ruby and his three daughters Lisa (Jeff), Lori (Rich), and Lynn; His wonderful grandchildren Charles (Nicole), David, Kes, Karli (Stephen), Alyssa (Sawyer), Erica (Dan), Kelly; and three incredible great grandchildren Finn, Bellison “Bella”, and Aster.


Bob is predeceased by his precious granddaughter, Amy, and his brother Tommy Bellison.


Bob was an avid sports fan and participant his entire life. He loved the game of baseball. But above all, he loved God, Family and others. He was a man of tremendous faith who fiercely loved and cherished his family, and the time spent with them.  His generosity and compassion for others made a lasting impact on countless lives.


Bob will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.


The family will receive friends on Monday, September 30 at Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church Street, Damascus MD 20872, for viewing beginning 9:30 a.m. until funeral services commence at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow afterward in Damascus United Methodist Cemetery.
