The Montgomery County Police Alumni Association, Inc. regrets to announce the death of our Brother, Richard “Dick” Winkler, on Thursday, April 2, 2020. He was the son of a career Army man and grew up on various Army bases around the world. He proudly served as MP in the United States Army in Vietnam.
Dick joined the Montgomery County Police Department in 1968, first serving in the Wheaton (4th) District then transferring to the Bethesda (2nd) District where he spent the remainder of his career. His entire career was spent as a patrol officer, which he dearly loved. He retired in 1994.
Dick is survived by his wife Maggie, his daughter Kelli Cole (Will), his grandson Paul, his step-grandson Alex, his brother Tom (Pamela Jo) and many "in-laws", nephews and nieces. Memorials may be made in his name to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (nleomf.org) or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (vvmf.org). Condolences may be sent to the family at 6610 Commodore Court, New Market, MD. 21774.
At his request, he was cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be conducted after the COVID-19 pandemic emergency passes.
