Mr. Ralph W. Offutt, Jr., age 87. of Derwood, Maryland passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Terraces of Tuckerman, Bethesda, Maryland. Ralph was born July 29, 1937, in Olney, Maryland. He was the son of the late Ralph W. and Ruth E. Offutt, of Gaithersburg.
Ralph graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1955 where he was his class president. He lettered in sports, playing football, baseball and basketball. He went to George Washington University prior to working for Southern Railway. Shortly thereafter he went to work for Sperry Rand which eventually became UNISYS, where he would retire after 43 years in 2003.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Suzanne (nee Griffith) and loving and devoted children Pamela E. Loomis (Michael, Dec.), Germantown, Maryland, Lisa O. Sessa (Louis), Gaithersburg, Maryland and Drew G. Offutt (Jennifer) of Bethesda, Maryland. He was the kind, adored and loving Poppa of Carissa K. Geisler (Patrick), Silver Spring, Maryland Jeffrey L. Sessa (Bee) Henrico, Virginia, Amanda Jane Sessa, Gaithersburg, Md., Leah D., and Noah D. Offutt of Bethesda. He is survived by two great grandsons, Owen and Theo Geisler of Silver Spring, Maryland. In addition he is survived by his sister Ruth Ann German and husband Ray of Frederick., Maryland and several nieces and nephews.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeffrey W. Offutt, Granddaughter Molly Kay Sessa and his brother George (Bill) and his wife Margaret Offutt.
As a young boy Ralph had a deep love for trains, which gave him many years of enjoyment. He was a member of TCA and the local train club. He also had many wonderful times with his poker club buddies. Ralph was able to see his first grandson become a railroad engineer, which gave him such pleasure. Another grandson followed his footsteps in becoming a baseball player, and he was able to see him play at Cooperstown Dreams Park, N.Y. Ralph was also able to see his granddaughter play in the Md. State Field Hockey Championship Game last year. Attending his grandchildrens sporting and school events brought him so much pleasure.
Ralph and Suzanne had a travel trailer for years that they shared with family and friends. They loved to visit historical places but Myrtle Beach S.C. for one of his favorites for years until he was not able to make trips anymore.
The family want to thank his many neighbors and friends for being there for him and his family, the Reeses, Badolatos, Carringtons, and during his illness and a very special friend Michael Thompson.
Friends may call Friday, November 1, 2004, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland from 10:00 a.m. until funeral services begin at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Jan Lookingbill will officiate.
Interment will immediately follow in Forest Oak Cemetery, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Following the interment there will be a celebration of his life to take place at the Outta The Rabbit Hole, Derwood.
Pallbearers will be Drew Offutt, Noah Offutt, Jeffrey Sessa, Louis Sessa, Troy German, and Michael Thompson.
