Philip McNally Obituary

Philip John McNally

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Philip J. McNally of Lisbon, MD, who left this world peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the age of 88.

Beloved husband to Nancy (Shaner) McNally, loving father to Kevin John McNally, Diane Maria McNally Danaher (husband Russell), and Kristen Louise McNally. Cherished step-grandfather to Christina Danaher Bindon (husband Jack) and step-great-grandfather to Lucy. Dear brother of Martha Kiss, Thomas McNally, and the late Joseph McNally.

He was born on December 29, 1937, son of the late Robert and Julia (Rebovich) McNally.  Philip grew up in Portage, Pennsylvania with a strong sense of family and faith that guided him throughout life.

A loyal family man, Philip dedicated himself to his wife, Nancy, with whom he shared just shy of 65 wonderful years of marriage.  Nancy was truly his everything.

Philip and Nancy moved multiple times early in their marriage before settling with their growing family in Chelmsford, Mass in 1965 and then their final move to Maryland in 1975.

He was a graduate of Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA. With a degree in physics and a minor in mathematics, he set out to start a long-standing career in semiconductor device development. Philip was a published author in multiple physics/engineering journals and a patent holder. Retiring at the age of 73 from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU-APL) as a Senior Scientist/Physicist.

He enjoyed playing golf in his younger years and was an avid Orioles fan - who loved going to games at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Especially on floppy hat nights. Philip took great pride in family and enjoyed gatherings for celebrations and holidays. He will be forever remembered for his warmth, humor and steady presence.

He was a man defined by loyalty, quiet generosity and unwavering devotion to those he held close. His family and friends will miss him dearly but take comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind - of laughter, love, and a life well lived.
