It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved father, Philip Harvey Green, 75, of Gaithersburg, Maryland. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Friday, June 27th, 2025. Philip was born on October 28th, 1949, at Frederick Hospital to Roland Lee Green and Janice Pearl (Hyatt) Green.
He is survived by his siblings Joy Schwab (Warren), Roland Green Jr. (Janis), and Roy Green (Patsy) and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Philip will be remembered by his cousin Bob Roelke, who was more of a brother than cousin. His family includes daughter Mandy Norwood and husband Rusty Olden of Ijamsville, MD, son Brett Green and wife Janet Swanson Green of Westminster, CO and daughter Kristi Green of Phoenix, AZ and grandchildren Alyssa, Jason, Kimberlyn, Leah, Colton, Weston, Cassidy and Addison.
Philip was raised on the Rolling Green Farm along Hawkins Creamery Road in Damascus, where family gatherings were often celebrated. His and many others' most favorite day of the year was butchering every Thanksgiving. He graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1967 and the Bullis School in 1968. He served in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1976. He continued his education by taking college night classes while providing for his family, earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Business & Management with a concentration in Accounting from the University of Maryland in 1995. Philip was an avid Terps fan, attending Maryland football and basketball games with the Tregoning family for decades. What began in his teens as a job delivering lumber for Hyatt Building Supply evolved into a distinguished career as Vice President of Lumber and Building Materials until his retirement in 2021. He worked alongside his brother Roland and cousin Bob, building many friendships with the wonderful customers of Hyatt's in his 55+ years there, working diligently to provide the type of service one can only receive from a small-town family-owned business. Philip was a member of the Damascus Jaycees and Damascus Lions, a Lifetime member of the Montgomery County Fair and the Damascus United Methodist Church. He loved to travel all over the United States, driving all over the eastern and middle of the country and flying out west to explore the National Parks. He would study the area by reading books and reviewing maps prior to his trips, which allowed him to move through this great country as if he were a local everywhere he went.
Philip had a tremendous heart, helping many people throughout his lifetime. He and his first wife, Dianne (Norwood) Boykin, cared for foster children before raising Mandy, Brett and Kristi. He was always there for his family and friends whenever they needed him. Even in his retirement years, while residing at Country Meadows in Frederick, Philip was always willing to lend a hand to the loving staff or help other residents. His gentle, warm and helpful personality earned him respect and love, and he will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held at the Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD, on Wednesday, July 2nd from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
Funeral Service will be held the Damascus United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 3rd, at 11 am with interment in the church Cemetery, followed by a reception at the church.
