Pennie May Adams, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, was called home to the Lord on January 22, 2024. Pennie passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after a brief illness.
Born April 18, 1947, to Clarence Washington May and June Haydon May in Silver Spring, MD. She attended Springbrook High School but transferred in her senior year and graduated from Upland High School in Upland, CA. She studied nursing at Humboldt State College in Arcata, CA. It was there that she met Ronald “Ron” Adams. The two were married in 1967 and enjoyed a loving and devoted marriage of 56 years.
The couple moved to the DC suburbs in the early 1970s where they raised their two sons, Christopher and Michael. In the mid-1980s, they settled in Mt. Airy, MD.
Pennie was a dedicated and faithful servant through service to the United Methodist Church, most recently at Damascus UMC. She actively participated in the women’s group, served in the church library, and greeted parishioners at Sunday services, including handing out candy to the children.
Her hobbies included crafting, sewing, jewelry-making, scrapbooking, singing, piano playing, baking, cooking, collecting antiques, dolls, and angel figurines, and decorating for the holidays.
Pennie is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and June. She is survived by her husband Ron Adams, her brother Jerry C May and sister-in-law Charlene, sons Christopher and Michael Adams, grandchildren Meghan, Kat, and Stevie Ray Adams, and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on February 17, 2024, at 1 PM at Damascus UMC in Damascus, MD with a reception to follow. Interment will be private at Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville, MD.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Damascus United Methodist Church 9700 New Church Road Damascus, MD 20872, www.damascusumc.org.
