Paul F Behlen, Jr. Obituary

Paul Frederick Behlen, Jr.  (affectionally known as “Uncle Paul”, “Bimbo” and “007”), went to join his parents in Heaven on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the age of 75.  He was born on March 25, 1949, and was the son of the late Paul F. Behlen and the late Lucielle Matheson Behlen.  He was an only child and the last of his immediate family.

For 42 years, Paul resided with Ralph and Judy Caparotti and their family in Damascus.  He instantly became an “adopted” family member and was always there to lend a helping hand and tell stories that were most of the time false just to get you riled up and laughing. He also became the beloved brother Ralph and Judy never had growing up.  He was truly a unique man and gave us many cherished, funny and crazy memories to carry in our hearts.

Paul grew up in Bladensburg, Maryland and graduated from Bladensburg High School.  After graduation, he went on to work for The Washington Post Newspaper as an assistant foreman in their mailroom.  His career with the newspaper expanded 37 years and he always worked the night shift.  Many people would see him on the side of 270 or 27 catching a quick catnap in his truck as he was coming home.  Officers were always checking on him to make sure he was “ok”.  He would also sleep in the driveway for hours on end – he always wanted to know who was coming and going and his truck was the place to not miss a thing!

When not working, he loved to be around family, loved to fish and go to casinos whenever possible.  He enjoyed collecting baseball caps (and aluminum cans that he spent many hours sitting in a chair crushing – just to recycle for a few extra bucks – we swore he spent more in gas than the money he collected).

Paul leaves behind his loving stepmother Dottie Behlen, his adopted family; Ralph and Judy Caparotti, and their three children Carol Quinn (Barney), Ralph Caparotti, Jr., and Don Caparotti (Diane),  eight adopted grandchildren: Erin Quinn Terpening (Alex), Brandon Quinn (fiancée Annie), Brady Quinn; Dominick (fiancee Abby),  Danny, Drew, and Devyn Caparotti and Kayla Caparotti; one great-granddaughter Madison Terpening.  He will also be remembered by long time friends Ralph Moyer, Donna Phelps and Anita and Mike DeVito.

Services and interment will be private in Salem Methodist Cemetery, Cedar Grove, Maryland.
