Linda S. Bentley Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Sue Bentley, of Clarksburg, Maryland, on January 10, 2026, at the age of 64.

Linda was born Linda Sue Mowell on April 15, 1961, at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Maryland, to William Emory Mowell and Ethel Bernice Vaughn. She was lovingly raised by Leonard and Ethel Vaughn and was the eldest of six siblings.

Linda grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland, where she met her high school sweetheart at the age of 16, Phillip Bentley Sr. The two were married on August 26, 1978, and together they shared a devoted marriage and raised four children.

Linda is survived by her children: George Washington Bentley III and his wife Vanessa, of Fairplay, Maryland; Stephanie Marie Hoover and her husband Mike, of Stewartstown, Pennsylvania; and Christina Grace Bentley and her fiancé Chad, of Hedgesville, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Phillip Lee Bentley Jr., of Clear Spring, Maryland.

Linda’s greatest blessings were her seven grandchildren—Savannah, Gabriella, Alyssa, Alisha, Addison, Colton, and Alexander—who were the light of her life. She also adored her fur baby Foxy and grand pup, Daisy, who brought her much joy.

Linda is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly.

For many years, Linda worked in the floral department at Safeway in Damascus, where she was well known and cherished as a customer favorite. Outside of work, Linda loved spending time outdoors tending to her flower beds, enjoying weekends with her husband, children, and grandchildren, and visiting with family. More recently, she treasured trips to Maine with her husband, where she found peace sitting on the dock, watching nature and beautiful sunsets.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Ethel Vaughn.; her siblings Emory William Mowell, Leone Bentley, Patricia Brooks, Juanita Reed, and Emory Carlton Mowell; and her stepsister, Bobbi Payne.

Family and friends may visit Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, located at 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland, on Thursday January 22, 2026, from 6-8 PM.
