Leroy Eugene Fisher Jr.
“Gene” “Eenie”
January 12, 1963 – July 8, 2024
Gene Fisher, age 61, surrounded in love by his family passed away peacefully at his home in Darnestown, Maryland on July 8, 2024.
He was born on January 12, 1963, in Washington, D.C. to Gene and Peggy Fisher. He was raised in Cabin John, Maryland.
Gene is survived by his wife, Charlotte Fisher of 38 years. Together they raised three sons: Andrew (Lauren), Nathan (Lara), and Nicholas.
He loved to be involved in his boys’ sports when they were growing up. Gene coached youth football and lacrosse. He always volunteered to help line fields, manage equipment and do anything that was needed. Gene loved watching their passion and love of sports grow which ranged from basketball, wrestling, football, lacrosse, and golf.
One of his most celebrated roles was being a grandfather. He went by “Eenie” to his three amazing grandchildren: Colton, Peyton, and Amelia. Gene and Colton had a really strong bond and he frequently referred to Colton as his Best Buddy. He loved watching them take swim lessons, play soccer, and play baseball. He also enjoyed surprising them at the bus stop and giving them and their friends a ride in the back of his truck.
In Gene’s early years, he was a Volunteer Firefighter for the Cabin John Fire Station. Following that he spent 33 years working for Montgomery County Government in the Highway Services department. Over the years he held many different roles and positions that allowed him to have an impact on different departments within Highway Services. Gene always loved interacting with his coworkers and would try to bring a smile to everyone’s day with his jokes and mannerisms.
Gene loved spending time at his home at Deep Creek Lake. He enjoyed going for bear rides and sitting on the deck in the sun watching his grandchildren play in the water. Gene also loved to play golf and most recently spent time watching his grandchildren learning the game of golf. His family remembers his love of grilling and smoking various meats in his smoker. He also enjoyed making a variety of Christmas yard decorations for family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Gene and Peggy Fisher and his beloved in laws: Gavin and Cathleen Farr.
Gene/Eenie will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
