John Henry Gorecki, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Damascus, MD. after a courageous battle with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Born December 18, 1958 to Henry and Irene Gorecki in Elizabeth, New Jersey, John was known as a man of all trades. Graduating from Carteret High School, John worked with his parents at their bar and grille. He also worked alongside his father and brother operating heavy equipment in their excavating and paving business. After graduating from Rutgers University, John found his niche in commercial flooring as a project manager and estimator. He worked for companies in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.
John was active in the Knights of Columbus, volunteering at many of their functions, pancake breakfasts being among his favorite. He loved landscaping and gardening, and raising chickens and horses. John loved visits to the Jersey Shore and vacations at Deep Creek Lake. He loved to cook and proudly canned his own spaghetti sauce. John also enjoyed a good donut, anything raspberry, and carrot cake.
John is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Irene Gorecki, and one brother, Edward Gorecki. John is survived by his wife, Beth Gorecki of Damascus, daughter Kristen Hontz of Columbia, son Daniel Gorecki of New Jersey, daughters Megan and Shannon Gorecki of Florida, and daughter Caitlin Risvold of Virginia.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
