Joan Vito

Joan Vito went home to be with her Lord, peacefully, surrounded by her family, in her home in Damascus, Maryland on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the age of 85.

Joan is survived by her children, Marjorie Shipley & husband Russell and children Jennifer and Johnny of Berwyn Heights, Maryland; Tracy Vito-Barbour & husband Joe and three children Krista, Dustin and Alyssa of Thurmont, Maryland; Steven J. Vito & wife Janine and their children Anthony and Bradley of Port Charlotte, Florida; and Kristina Christie & husband Skipper and three children, Shannon, Heather and Jared of Gainesville, Florida. Joan is also survived by eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Joan, an only child, was born on June 19, 1936 in Baltimore, MD to John Francis Hawkins and Edith Elizabeth Fitzsimmons. Along with her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Josh Vito, her son John Sutherland and grandson Jimmy Sherrod.  

Joan, a loving and compassionate woman, served the community as a heath care administrator at Georgetown University Hospital for nearly 50 years. Joan is remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 Tuesday, November 16, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872.  Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 17 at the funeral home.  Msgr. Edward Filardi will officiate. 

Immediately follow the services Joan will be laid to rest with her husband Josh at All Souls Cemetery in Germantown, Maryland. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joan’s life.
