Jeffrey L. Monarch Obituary

Jeffrey Lawton Monarch, 46, of Damascus, MD, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Sibley Memorial Hospital, in Washington, DC, from complications due to leukemia and kidney disease.  He had been battling both of these diseases for the past eighteen months as well as Crohn’s Disease, which he was diagnosed with way back in his early teens.  Jeff was a brave warrior fighting all of these diseases daily until the very end.

Born on July 9, 1978, in Abington, PA, he lived his school years in Yardley, PA, which is located in the suburbs of Philadelphia.  Shortly after graduating from Pennsbury High School in 1996, Jeff and his family moved to MD, where he began a long series of retail and restaurant jobs spanning over three states (MD, VA, and OH) and the next three decades.  In 2003, he also found time to earn a BS in computer science programming from Strayer University in Washington, DC.  His passion for computers and most everything technology-related drove Jeff to start his own business in the mid-2000s named Angry Goat Computers.  Right up until this past Christmas, he was still building sophisticated gaming computer systems for both of his sons.

Throughout his adult life, Jeff found pleasure in listening to podcasts, watching a variety of how-to videos, riding bikes, playing pool, and shooting darts.  In recent years, these hobbies led him to Belles’ Sports Bar and Grill and the Anchor Bar, both located in Frederick, MD, where he enjoyed a tremendous amount of laughter, the thrill of competition, and some amazing friendships.  Jeff also spent many summers volunteering countless hours at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair, where he helped to build sets for Kids’ Zone, repair fences and barns, and prepare his two sons for showing their prized goats during Fair Week.

Jeff is remembered and greatly missed by those closest to him --- his sons, Logan (17) and Brayden (8) Monarch; his father and step-mother, Rick and Tammy Monarch; his brother, Adam Monarch; his two step-brothers, Chris and Tim Lee; and his ex-wife, Jenny Monarch --- all of Damascus, MD --- as well as his very dear and special friend, Becca Gamble of Frederick, MD.  Jeff was predeceased by his beloved mother, Marsha Monarch, in 2000.

A Celebration of Jeff’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 3 pm, in The Heritage on the Montgomery County Agricultural Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg, MD.

His good friends and extended family are all invited to join together in a time of remembrance and fellowship as we celebrate and honor Jeff with many of the things and people he loved.  As part of this celebration, we ask that everyone wear a bit of purple, his favorite color, and as a lasting tribute to his fierce bravery and almost 35-year battle with Crohn’s Disease, we will collect donations and present them in Jeff’s memory to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
