Jeanette Hood Burke, 91, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026, at home in Monrovia, Maryland with her family.

Jeanette was born January 9, 1935 in Olney, Maryland to John and Olive Hood of Damascus, Maryland.  Jeanette grew up in Damascus and graduated from Damascus High School in 1953.  Jeanette and Charles A. “Buddy” Burke resided in Monrovia after marriage on August 28, 1954. 

Jeanette worked for Hyatt Lumber after high school before moving to Damascus Fuel where she worked for 54 years for the Riggs’ family.   Jeanette was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church and the Maryland Christmas Tree Association and enjoyed caring for their Christmas tree farm.  Along with her husband, she enjoyed being outside as often as she could.  Jeanette enjoyed mowing, sheering trees, fishing, and camping.  Jeanette was known as a keen shot as she once shot a ring neck pheasant out of the second story bathroom window.  She truly loved sitting on the beach, listening to the sound of the waves, and watching her family play in the ocean.

In early 1990, Jeanette and Buddy decided to build a house on the Burke family property with a swimming pool that she always wanted. Jeanette loved to swim and watch her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren learn and grow into amazing swimmers at that same pool. That was what happiness looked like to her.

Surviving are two children, Sandy Burke of Monrovia, Maryland and John Burke with wife, Tanya also of Monrovia: three granddaughters, Lauren Burke with significant other, Joseph Ingegneri and three great-grandchildren, Jaidyn and Joseph Ingegneri of Monrovia and Emmalee Terry of Westminster, Corinne Thompson and her husband, Michael Thompson and two great-grandchildren, Alaina and Burke Thompson of Monrovia, and Jessica Geisler and her husband, Garrett Geisler and one great-grandchild, Eleanor of Libertytown.  She is remembered by her brother, Robert Hood and his wife Margo of Frederick.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. “Buddy” Burke, of 61 years and her brother, Louis “Sonny” Hood.

Friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday January 18, 2026 at Molesworth-Williams Funeral home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Providence Methodist Cemetery, Kemptown, Md.
