Margaret Jane Souder Snapp, 93, passed away February 21, 2023. She was born October 21, 1929 on the family farm, in Damascus, Maryland.
She was the daughter of the late Archie Warthen Souder and Sallie Lenore Purdum Souder.
She attended Damascus Elementary and High Schools, graduating in 1947 as valedictorian of her class. Her working career began in 1947 when she was employed by the District of Columbia government to work at the D. C. License Bureau. In 1952, she became a "stay-at-home Mom" and in the 1950's she partnered with her husband in his construction business as Secretary - Treasurer. In the 1960's she began to work as a part-time teller at the Bank of Damascus and retired from the bank as an Operations Officer.
She was active in the Damascus United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, Trustee, and on many other committees. She was an active volunteer at Harwood House Thrift Shop for many years, after the shop opened in 1993.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hubert Ernest Snapp, and four sisters Ruth Souder Gue, Dorothy Souder Burdette, Grace Souder King, and Helen Souder Boyer. She is survived by three children, Carol Snapp (Robert Harris) of Salem, SC, James Snapp (Cynthia) of Chester, MD, and John Snapp (Sharron) of Mount Airy, MD. She is also survived by grandchildren, Matthew Richards (partner, Olga Ruzina), Michael Richards (partner, Meagan Till), Christopher Richards (Kelcye), Emily Snapp, Nathaniel Snapp, Timothy Snapp, Theresa Snapp, Elisabeth Snapp, great grandson, Brixton Richards, and a large extended family. Jane enjoyed reading, quilting, painting, and time with family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 2, 2023 6-8pm at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2023 at Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church Street, Damascus. Interment will follow in Damascus Methodist Cemetery
