Obituary
James “Jim/Jimmy” Brooke Arnold, 90, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023, in Frederick after an extended illness. He was born December 29, 1932, in Germantown, MD, the son of the late Leroy A. and F. Irene Arnold. He graduated from Damascus High School where he was active in FFA and student government. He was also an active 4-H member. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Agriculture Education and an M.S. in Agriculture and Extension Service. He also served two years in the US Army.
He spent 30+ years working with the Maryland Cooperative Extension Service, serving as an extension agent in Allegany and Charles Counties and as a state program leader in College Park.
After retirement from the Extension Service, he began a second career in various positions with the Charles County Fair and served on the Board of the Maryland Association of Fairs & Shows.
He is survived by his sisters Lillian A. Murphy and Mary Jane Arnold, nephew F. Earl Nichols, niece Alberta (Mike) Epstein, niece Barbara (Rick) Kromer, niece Anita (Zach) Evans, and nephew John Murphy. He is also survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews and their families.
He was predeceased by a brother, Leroy A. Arnold Jr., three sisters, infant Martha E. Arnold, Gladys E. Nichols, and Evelyn L. Arnold, two brothers-in-law, Julian A. Nichols and Rockne E. Murphy, nephew Roland A. Nichols, and nieces Gail E. Nichols and Cynthia I. Murphy.
Services will be held at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD, on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 1 PM, with the family receiving friends beginning at noon. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Oak Cemetery, Gaithersburg, MD.
