Hope E. Dutton Obituary

Hope Eugenia ‘Genie’ (Evans) Dutton, 89 years old, passed away on Sunday, February 22nd, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 9th, 1936, in Washington, DC.

After 41 years of marriage, her beloved husband, Eugene, preceded her in death in 2010.  She was a blessed member of the Shrine of St. Jude in Rockville, MD, where she was a member of the Sodality for 40 years, the Community of Light Prayer Group, and the Secular Franciscan Order. She later moved to Damascus, MD, and was a member of St. Paul’s Church.

Genie worked as a secretary for the United States Navy Department before dedicating herself to her family. She was a loving mother to her three sons, John (Chrissy), Paul (Lauren), and Mark. She is also survived by four grandchildren, John (Tiffany), Hayley, Paytyn, and Paul, and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Kennedy.  She is also survived by her brothers Brian “Bud” and Keith and was preceded in death by her brother Gary.

A woman of unwavering faith, Genie lived her life guided by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was rarely still, filling her days with prayer groups, crochet clubs, and time spent at the Senior Center. She was known for her compassion and generosity, especially through crocheting prayer blankets for newborns in the NICU and offering comfort and encouragement to those around her. She built lasting relationships within her parish communities and constantly reminded her family and friends of Christ’s love. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she now rests in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved husband and all who went before her.
