Harry Irvine, Jr. Obituary

Harry Winfree Irvine, Jr.

Celebration of Life

Sunday, October 2, 2022

The following was written for the 2021 Christmas card, which never got sent out (much to Winfree’s chagrin):

“Welcome 2022, goodbye 2021!  This year has been spent with too many doctors and not enough family and friends.  Winfree ended his 60-year Real Estate career in June.  Major events were (1) Winfree’s two heart catheterizations, without any stents and questionable need (2) Winfree had three other hospital stays, and he continued to try to recover (3) Dolly had skin cancer surgery in January.  We did have some fun: (1) Saint Simons trips in May and December (2) Cape Cod glass show and gathering in September (3) Montgomery County Fair in August (4) Wolfeboro NH with bandstand etc in July.  We said goodbye to all but six sheep, and we will really miss lambing.  Ashley (20) is off to Florida State University and their circus!  Cailey (11) is taller than Dolly and traveling with the ever-moving Carol and Jerry.  Hope to reconnect with everyone this year.  May we all feel better – about everything!”

In May 2022 our world fell apart.  After many doctors and tests, the primary doctor told us to take some pills and that we were OK to travel.  Winfree was anxious to get to Saints Simons Island for Memorial Day.  But he suddenly became worse and went from hospital to home hospice in less than two weeks.  On May 8, 2022, Winfree left us

We are planning a celebration of Winfree’s life on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Heritage Building at the Gaithersburg Agricultural Fairgrounds. 16 Chestnut St. Gaithersburg, Md. 20877. Much of his time and interests has been spent in agriculture, plus Rotarian, Mason, Real Estate broker, antiques, furniture business, physical education teacher and coach, and shepherd.  He was good at lambing and with a German Shepherd dog who stayed in his hospital bed until the end.  See also the enclosed obituary.

The hours of the celebration will be 1PM to 3PM.  Please give us a quick call at 301-948-5715 and leave a message (name and number of people coming) if you will be coming -- so that we can make catering plans.

We are so thankful to our wonderful family and friends, especially Carol who was there every day, and Rachel who takes care of Spring Valley Mill and us.

- Helen (Dolly) Becraft Irvine
