Gerald (Jerry) Harvey Way, Jr.

Frederick, MD – Jerry Way, 83 passed away peacefully April 17, 2025 at the Somerford House of Frederick.  His wife Cindy was by his side.  Born on August 2, 1941 in Boston, MA, the son of Gerald Way Sr. and Pansy Beckwith.

Jerry graduated from Melrose High School in 1959 and then went on to earn an AA degree from Eastern Nazarene College in 1962.  He joined the Army with service in Korea from 1963 to 1966.  He married Cynthia Ann Setner in 1966.  After the Army Jerry went to work for General Electric Information Services transferring to Brook Park, Ohio in 1969.  In 1976 they moved to Maryland living in Rockville, North Potomac, Mount Airy and Frederick.  He retired from GE in 1997 and then went to work for Montgomery County Public Schools for 10 years before a final retirement in 2008. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his half-sister Beverly DeVine, of Tewksbury, MA.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia (Setner) Way, reaching 59 years of matrimony.  Together they managed a diverse trio of children, Wendy, Mark (married to Natalie Laohaphan) and Jeff (married to Denise Hayslett).  Whom have subsequently sprouted an assemblage of grandchildren that still don’t know how to use a rotary phone and have questionable decision-making skills (…zoomers…);  Tyler, Morgan, Logan, Chistopher and Josie Olivia plus some bonus grandkids with Jeff’s wife Denise and her cohort of Madelyn, Trent and Isabella (…ughh, more zoomers…)

Jerry was a perpetual handyman.  There are unsubstantiated rumors of hot rods and dubious behavior in his youth, which explains Jeff.  A tendency to over organize and plan was common, which steers towards Wendy.  Oddly though, Mark’s occasional genius and charm has been a mystery… so probably Mom.

A viewing will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by funeral services 4:30  p.m., on Tuesday, April 29 at the Gaithersburg Church of the Nazarene, 8921 Warfield Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20882.

He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony Wednesday morning at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick, MD.
