George Dorsey Unglesbee, 98, of Gaithersburg, MD, died peacefully on January 13, 2025. Dorsey, as he was called by family and old friends, was born July 25, 1926, on Rich Meadow Dairy Farm, the family dairy farm near Germantown, MD. He was the second child of the late Beall G.W. and Mary Elizabeth (Dorsey) Unglesbee. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife Doris (Ward), to whom he was married for 66 years, and by his sister, Betty Isis, and half-brothers Harry and Lawrence Unglesbee.
George is survived by children Steve Unglesbee (Dava), Sally Long (Kim), and Sandy Hutto (Kevin, deceased); and eight grandchildren: Jonathan, Jeff and Matt (Nicole) Unglesbee; Tim (Amanda) and Allison Long; and Kyle, Wesley (Keely) and Leah Hutto. George had five great-grandchildren: Charlie and Betsy Unglesbee; Colton and Jameson Long; and Ivy Hutto.
After graduating from Richard Montgomery High School in 1944, George worked on the farm where he transported German prisoners from a camp near Gaithersburg for farm work during World War II. In 1947, he began his 35-year career with the federal government and held positions at the Interstate Commerce and Federal Maritime commissions. George served in the District of Columbia National Guard and was discharged as a sergeant. After retiring, George worked in a local hardware store and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, caring for his lawn and garden, and participating in church activities.
From childhood, George attended Neelsville Presbyterian Church, where he married Doris, served as an ordained elder and raised his children. He is believed to have held the longest membership in the church.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 20, from 1:pm to 2:pm at the Church. Rev. Jeffrey Rickett will officiate at a celebration of George's life Monday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the white chapel of Neelsville Presbyterian, 20701 Frederick Rd., Germantown, MD. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
