Evelyn Day Hilton, age 92, of Damascus passed away peacefully at home on June 8 surrounded by her family.  She was born March 30, 1933 on the family farm in Browningsville to Edna Beall Day and James Willard Day.  Evelyn graduated from Damascus High School in 1951. She was married to Robert Hilton, her husband of 71 years.

For 42 years Evelyn and Robert managed the family farm where they raised their five children.  In addition to the farm, Evelyn worked for Doctors’ Kerr and Weiss until her retirement.  Evelyn enjoyed sewing, needle crafts, gardening, canning, baking, collecting milk bottles and watching hummingbirds.  She was known for her applesauce cakes, molasses cookies, potato rolls and cheesecakes.

Evelyn is survived by her 5 children Gwen (Terry) Brown; Gail (Joel) Hudlow; Sue Hilton (Tom Terpilak); Sharon (Mark) Rhodes; and Robert R. Hilton; brother James Rudell Day (Cici); and sister, MaryJane Walter.  She is proud of her six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Evelyn was preceded in death by husband Robert Hilton; sister Ginny Locke; daughter-in-law Tarra Woodfield Hilton; grandson, Matthew Rhodes and brother-in-laws Ruben Locke and Kenneth Walter. 

Evelyn was a life-time member at Bethesda United Methodist Church  where she faithfully worshipped and served for many years with United Methodist Women.  She was very active in Damascus Help, Delai and Faith Connections.  She was a life-time member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair and volunteered for many years as food booth co-coordinator and chairman of the Herdsmen’s Breakfast. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at 11 a.m. at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 11901 Bethesda Church Road, Damascus, MD with visitation one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Bethesda United Methodist Church, 11901 Bethesda Church Road, Damascus, MD 20872. 

Any Flower deliveries should be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church from 9:00 a.m. until 12 Noon on Tuesday. June 17.
