Edward Szalay, 99 of Monrovia, passed away peacefully, at Country Meadows in Frederick, Maryland., December 5, 2025. He was proud to have served his country in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. After his service Edward was a NYC Transit Police officer until transferring to the NYC Fire Department. He retired after 30 years of service as Captain in the NYC fire department. He enjoyed fishing, ballroom dancing, and was an avid reader. Edward was pre-deceased by his wife of 65 years, Mary Elizabeth (Comba) Szalay. He leaves a daughter, Donna Schoettker, son in-law, Eric Schoettker, a son, Martin Szalay, and daughter in-law, Cheryl Szalay, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews in Canada.
