Dorothy Jane Orem Thomas

Dorothy Jane Orem Thomas departed this earthly life peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at The Frederick Crossing Rehabilitation Center. She was born on May 20,1935 to the late Willard Lee Orem and Mary Lyles Orem.

She received her education from Carver High School in Rockville, Maryland, in 1952. After graduation she married the late Hanford Thomas, Sr. From this union, they had seven wonderful children. Dorothy was a homemaker, a part-time domestic worker, and later was employed with NIH for years prior to leaving her employment to care for her father. In her ladder years, she retired from the Damascus Library as an Assistant.

She enjoyed playing cards and Bingo, Saturday morning breakfast at the Golden Corral. Dororthy especially loved her church family, preaching, gospel music and programs at Pleasant Grove Christian Community Church.

Dororthy leaves to mourn and cherish her memories of her seven children, Hanford, Jr., Linda Ambush, Mary Agnes Lyles, Darlene Thomas, and Anthony Thomas [Melissa]; her grandchildren Stacey [Tyres], Antione [Tylisa], David [Caroline], Crystal, Kylie, Kristen, and Garnett Jr.

Great grandchildren Shartez, Brianna, Kameron, Kamonte, Quincy, Landen, Dakota, Ethan, Aiden, Andre, Garnett III, and Donte' Jr.
Great-Great grandchildren Maya, Bryce, and Brylianna
Brother-in-law Bruce Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hanford Sr., daughter's Deborah Thomas, and Donna Coad, son-in-law's Gregory Ambush, and
Jerome Lyles. Sister Ethel Dorsey and brother-in-law Welton Dorsey, and brother William (Dick) Lyles.

The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Christian Community Church,11225 Mountain View Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872, from 10:00 a.m. until services begin at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Ernest Thomas and Pastor Lawrence Bryant will officiate. Interment will follow services in the church cemetery.
