Doris Estelle Pickett Utz, 94, of ( Long Corner), Mount Airy, Maryland, went home to be with her heavenly family on 29 August 2025.   She was the wife of Wilbert K. Utz for 71 years. She lived in Long Corner her entire life but for a short period in Georgia and Arizona when her husband was in the U.S. Army and the last three years in Frederick. She was born November 3, 1930, to Harry William Pickett and Florrie Mullinix Pickett. She was the last of her immediate family, having three brothers, W. Donald Pickett, J. Ernest Pickett and Marshall E. Pickett who predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, Wilbert K. Utz; her sons Les Utz, New Market; and Curtis A. Utz and his wife Ruth of Scaggsville. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jessica Romano, Ashley DeVries, Caroline Utz, Dylan Utz, and Lillian Utz, and one great-grandchild, Sophia Black.

She graduated as the valedictorian of the class of 1947 at Lisbon High School. In August 1947, she was hired as one of the first public school secretaries in Howard County.  She continued being secretary at Lisbon High School until 1955. In 1984, she went to work for Sandifer Electrical Services, Inc. and retired in 2001.  Mrs. Utz was a lifelong member of Howard Chapel-Ridgeville and served as church treasurer for 50 years. She was also a member of the Maryland 4-H Club All Stars and was a Howard County election judge for over 30 years. She enjoyed making rolls, bowling, and gardening.

Viewing will be at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872 in Damascus on Tuesday 2, September 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be at Howard Chapel-Ridgeville United Methodist Church, 1970 Long Cornor Road, Mount Airy, Maryland 21771 on Wednesday 3 September at 11:00, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
