Donald George Ramsbottom, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Damascus, Maryland, on October 31, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born in 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, to James Clifford and Muriel J. (Babcock) Ramsbottom, Don spent his early years in Cottage City, Maryland, before settling in Severn, Maryland, where he lived for most of his life.
A 1954 graduate of Bladensburg High School, Don was a proud three-season athlete, earning varsity letters in baseball, football, and basketball. His love of sports continued throughout his life—he remained active well into his later years, dedicated to fitness and weightlifting, and his ability to continue eating his favorite sweet treat — cookies. Don went on to graduate from Catonsville Community College and built a diverse career. He first worked for Butler Aviation at both National Airport and Baltimore-Washington Airport, later joining Conrail (CSX) as a train conductor and the Secretary Treasurer of the Railroad Union. He spent the final years of his professional life as a Title Abstractor in land records for Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties.
Don was an avid photographer and lifelong fan of the Washington Commanders, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Maryland Terrapins. He passed down his love of sports to his children and grandchildren, taking them to games, teaching them about the games, the rules, and even how to score a baseball game. He never missed an event for his children—whether it was a swim meet, soccer match, football game, volleyball game, cheering competition, or piano recital—and he often traveled great distances to support them and ensure all the memories were captured on film. He was a father that was always there for his children.
He was known for his humor, quick wit, and endless supply of stories—some more appropriate than others—which kept friends and family laughing through the years. This past June, Don joyfully celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by all his children, grandchildren, and countless friends and relatives, a day he fondly remembered in his final months.
Don is survived by his children: Rick Ramsbottom (wife, Janel) of Billings, Montana; Jodi Lorraine Quinn (husband, Chris) of Pasadena, Maryland; Jeri Kichuokova (husband, Ronnie) of Clarksburg, Maryland; and Dale Ramsbottom-Street of Atlanta, Georgia. He was the proud grandfather of Brayden Nazarian, Connor Quinn, John Ramsbottom, Raquel McKenzie (husband, Zach), and Trystan Kichoukov. He is also survived by his siblings Robert Ramsbottom of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Claire Davis of Jupiter, Florida. Don was preceded in death by his brother, James Ramsbottom.
Don’s life was marked by devotion—to his family, his work, and his love of sports, photography, and laughter. He will be remembered for his strength, humor, and unwavering presence in the lives of those who loved him.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date.
