In Loving Memory of David Walker Payne
April 25, 1952 – June 7, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Walker Payne on June 7, 2025. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by those he loved most.

David was born on April 25, 1952, in Alexandria, Virginia, to Lindsay Jennings Payne and Evelyn "Abbie" Callahan Payne.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Kelley; his children, Lindsay and Hunter; his cherished grandchildren, Emma and Vincent; his brother, Dale Payne (Barbara); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Tommy and Jeff, and his "second father," Edward Frankenburger.

David devoted his entire career to the commercial construction industry, beginning right after high school. He began his career as a laborer and carpenter, later becoming a field engineer, and by the age of 30 had earned the title of Superintendent with Blake Construction. He went on to lead major projects in Virginia, New Orleans, San Diego, Maryland and Washington, D.C. He spent the last 20 years of his career as a Senior Superintendent with Manhattan Construction Company.

More than anything, David took pride in his role as a father and grandfather. He was deeply proud of the adults Lindsay and Hunter have become and never missed a school event, celebration, or sporting activity. His grandchildren brought immense joy to his life, and his smile was never bigger than when he was with them.

David also loved relaxing with his wife at their second home on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, where they created countless cherished memories together.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Difference Makers Church, 11210 Bethesda Church Road, Damascus, MD 20872.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Children’s.
