Carolyn Lee Slocomb, age 61 passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2024 at her home in Clarksburg, Md. She was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania  daughter of the late Richard and Isabel Foltz of Mt. Airy, Md. Carolyn is survived by her husband Robert “Bo” Slocomb, and children Natalie Springirth, James Mitcham, Christopher Mitcham, Kyle Mitcham, Dustin Mitcham, Josh Slocomb, Colin Slocomb, grandchildren Robert, Wyatt, and Sawyer Springirth, Olivia Mitcham, and spouses Lena Mitcham and Mark Springirth, as well as Val Hobbs her sister. 

Having blended their families by marriage in 2004, Carolyn shortly thereafter retired from teaching to concentrate on all those things she loved to do.

She loved traveling around with Bo on the weekends, on rural back roads high and low in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, discovering unique little towns, odd and interesting shops, and phenomenal views. She entertained the family throughout the year at the house, always with a BBQ, keeping that sense of continuity long after the last child struck out on his own. Carolyn

loved gardening, decorating, watercoloring flowers, a good conversation, good stories, jokes, and cooking. She was remarkable because she seemed to want very little materially. She was centered and happy and loved to laugh.

Her legacy is the huge influence she had not only on her children and grandchildren, but on those children, she taught over the years. Blessed with a keen commonsense, loyalty, and strong values, Carolyn kept her family close. What others needed came first. She was well aware of the Lord in her life and His plan for us all.

Seeing how at peace she was with life’s priorities, a friend once asked Carolyn to describe to her her soul. Carolyn’s reply came along easily.  Her soul, she said, was what made up her heart: her family. She is missed terribly by us all.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 24 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 27015 Ridge Road, Damascus, Md. 20872, from 10:00 a.m. until funeral services begin at 11:00 a.m. Pastor John Bromhal will officiate.  Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market Street, Frederick, Md.  21701.
