Bertha McBee Stanley passed away on April 17th, 2026, living to the age of 102.
She was born on August 11, 1923, at home in Elkins, West Virginia to parents Ruben Perry McBee Sr. and Louisa Taylor McBee.
She graduated from Elkins High School. She moved to Baltimore for a job at Rosewood State Training School in Sykesville, Maryland where she was a caretaker. She married her husband Charles Thomas Stanley in 1947, and they bought their farm in Damascus in 1948 where they raised their four children. She worked for Montgomery County Government in the Parking Division and retired in 1988 after 21 years of service.
She is preceded in death by brothers Ruben Perry McBee, Jr and Clarence Taylor McBee. In addition, she is preceded in death by her companions who she loved dearly, her dogs Gizmo and Kenji. She is survived by her four children, Donald Lee Raines (Jeannie) of Clarksburg, Sharon Louise Adler (Bill) of Laurel, Roy Eugene Stanley (Kathy) of Damascus and Richard Keith Stanley (Pamela) of Damascus. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Stanley, Larry Raines, Kevin Stanley, Terry Raines, Justin Adler and Desiree Stanley and great grandchildren, Ryan Stanley, Rachel Willis, Mason Raines, Kason Willis, Evan Willis, Thomas Stanley and Ava Stanley. In addition, she is also survived by her sister-in-law, Emma Marie McBee of Fairfield, PA.
A private grave side service will be held at the Damascus United Methodist Church cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
