Otis Norwood, Jr. Obituary

Otis “Bub” C. Norwood, Jr., 76, of Frederick, Maryland gained his angel wings on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at Frederick Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.  He was the beloved husband of Martha Brandenburg Norwood his wife of 55 years.

Born Thursday, February 12, 1942 in Woodbine, Maryland he was a son of the late Otis Calvin, Sr. and L. Almeda Hilton Norwood.

Otis graduated from Gaithersburg High School.  He worked 32 years for Montgomery County Highway Department of Transportation in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and retiring from Damascus Maryland.  Knowing Otis meant that you had a friend and one who was always there to lend a helping hand when needed.  Otis was a member of the Hyattstown Voluteer Fire Department joining when he was 16 years old.  He stayed a member there until he helped with forming the Urbana Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad in which he was one of the five Charter Members.  He held the position of Past Chief when the Company was formed and has stayed a very active member until his death.  Otis was also a member of Junior Fire Department, Frederick, Maryland.  In April 2011 he was inducted into the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Hall of Fame, and on June 17, 2014 he was a nominee for the Marbery F. Gates Service Cup Award for 54 years of Dedicated Service.  Mr. Norwood was a former member of the Hyattstown United Methodist Church and was now a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife Martha, he is survived by his son Stephen Norwood and wife Mary Beth, and his daughter Stacey Hahn, two sisters June E. Gue, and Anna E. Ifert and husband Daniel. Grandchildren James Dylan Norwood, Mary Catherine “Katie” Wolohan and husband Kevin, and Kyle Russell Hahn; great grandson Kolten Wolohan, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers are grandsons: Dylan Norwood, Kyle Hahn, Kevin Wolohan, nephew Michael Brandenburg, cousin T. Frank Hipkins and friend John “Rusty” Hahn with honorary pallbearer great grandson Kolten Wolohan.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland. There will be a Celebration of Otis’s Life Friday, October 19, with a viewing from 10 am. until services begin at 11:00 at the funeral home. Pastor Sandi Phillips will officiate.

Interment will follow in Hyattstown Methodist Cemetery, Clarksburg, Md.
