Mildred C. Winkler

Mildred Catherine Winkler, age 99, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully at Tranquility Assisted living, Monday February 12, 2018. She was wife of the late Thomas “T.J.” Winkler.

Born May 29, 1918 in Washington, Pennsylvania she was a daughter of the late Robert W. and Susana Jenkins Herron. Mildred served in the United States Army Nurse Corps during World War II at Camp Lee, Virginia. After the attack on Pearl Harbor she was transferred to Hawaii where she worked in the surgical ward tending to those injured in the Pacific Theater. This is where she met her husband “TJ” of over 70 years. After her honorable discharge from the Army in 1944 Mildred moved all over the world with TJ and their two sons, until TJ retired from the army. They settled in Maryland where she continued her civilian nursing career and raised her family.

Surviving are her two sons: Thomas Winkler Jr. and wife PJ of Canton, Ohio, and Richard Winkler and wife Maggie of New Market. Granddaughter Kelli Cole and husband Will of Damascus, and great grandson Paul Rosenberger III of Damascus. 
Beside her husband and parents she is preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call form 7-9 p.m. Tuesday February 20 at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday February 21 at the funeral home. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring.
