Donald Milton Cowherd, 84, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018 in Mt. Airy, MD, following a long battle with a muscle disease, Idiopathic Myopathy.
He earned his bachelor degree at Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY, followed by a degree from Southern Seminary, Louisville, KY, and a doctorate from Somerset University in England. Don served many churches on the east coast in various pastoral ministries. He spent several years traveling, preaching revivals around the MD, VA, OH, and WV area, until his health dramatically declined. Don’s hobbies included oil painting, cross-stitching, needle arts, watching movies and woodworking. His love of woodworking led him to design and create PRAY plaques to encourage believers to pray. He made and gave away thousands of these plaques. Each year they were sent to our nation’s leaders at federal, state and local levels, as well as to countless individuals.
This became a worldwide ministry. He is survived by a loving family. Dolores, his wife of 65 years, son (Donald C.), daughter (Diane) and son (David), who preceded him in death by four years, and his sister, Jean Epperson. His family includes eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Liberty Baptist Church, 1200 Madison St., Lisbon, MD. 21765. Viewing will be Friday, August 24th from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m, and Saturday, August 25th from 10-11 a.m. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Samaritan’s Purse in Don’s honor or to a charity of your choice.
