Darryl M. Herndon

Darryl Max Herndon, 65, of Monrovia, Maryland passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, surrounded by his wife and two children.

        He was the loving husband of Dana Lu Herndon for 40 years.  Together, they had two children, Darryl Matthew Herndon of Mt. Airy, and Dara Lindsay Herndon-Harrison of New Market.

        Born November 20, 1952 in Olney, he was the son of the late William Max Herndon and Annalee Bernard Herndon of Damascus.

        Darryl attended Damascus High School.  He worked for Kettler Brothers Inc. in Montgomery Village until joining his father at Montgomery County Public Schools where he worked for 40 ½ years.  He began his career, first, as a plumber, then, as a boiler mechanic.  During his time with MCPS, he designed and built the boiler systems for Damascus High and Magruder High Schools.  He was a team leader at the time of his retirement in 2012.

        During his lifetime, he enjoyed farming, volunteering for the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department, watching Nascar races, home projects, refurbishing farm equipment, and, most of all, spending time with his wife, children, and grandkids.  His grandchildren were his pride and joy.  Darryl was a gifted tradesman.  He built three homes for his family and helped each of his brothers and sisters build their homes. 

        In addition to his wife and mother, Darryl is survived by his son and daughter, Matthew Herndon and wife, Diane, and their children, Aubrey and Matthew, and Dara Herndon-Harrison and husband, Jason, and their children, Olivia and Evie; brothers Oral and wife, Dale, George and wife, Jean, Wayne and wife, Kimberly; sisters Linda Holt, Savanna Rimbey, Joyce Ziranski and husband, Eddie; father-in-law, William Kessler, sister-in-law, Verna Hines; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

        The family will receive friends 3-5 & 7-9 p.m., Sunday July15, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872.

        Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday July 16, at the funeral home.

        Interment will follow at Howard Chapel Cemetery, 1970 Long Corner Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

        Pallbearers will be his son, Matthew Herndon, son-in-law, Jason Harrison, nephews, Jerry Rimbey, Jr., Mark Rimbey, and George Herndon, Jr., and friend, Denny Ogg.
