Virginia Mae Morgan Johnston, 95, of Cedar Grove, MD, passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 of natural causes.  Born April 15, 1921 in Portsmouth, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Earl Morgan and Lula Mae Smith Morgan.  Virginia graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, VA in 1938 and attended one year at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA.

    In June of 1942 Virginia married George Edwin Johnston, her classmate at Woodrow Wilson HS.  During WWII George served in the US Army and later he started his career in industrial sales.  After a few years, Virginia, George, and son, Rick, moved to Damascus, MD where they lived from 1960 to 1963 and were members of the First Baptist Church of Damascus.  Afterwards and until his death in 1987, George and Virginia enjoyed their life together in Boca Raton, FL.

    Surviving is her only son, Richard Edwin Johnston and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Hall Watkins Johnston; two grandsons, Michael Scott Johnston and wife, Bobbi Jo Whetzel of Mt. Airy, MD, and Douglas Morgan Johnston and wife, Jennifer Dawn Schmidt of Kutztown, PA; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Audrey Johnston of Powhatan, VA; four nephews and their extended families living in the greater Richmond, VA area.  In addition to her husband, Virginia was recently predeceased by brother-in-law, Dover J. Johnston, Jr. and by a great-granddaughter, Abigail Pearl Johnston.

    Virginia will be remembered by the congregation of Upper Seneca Baptist Church in Cedar Grove, MD.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Portsmouth, VA at a later date.  Burial will be private.
