Stella Werner Allison
August 8, 2016Stella Werner Allison, 87, formerly of Damascus, Md., passed away peacefully on August 8, 2016 at Dove House Hospice in Westminster, Md. Born February 28, 1929 in Baltimore Md., she was the daughter of the late John and Stella Werner. Stella was predeceased by her husband, LeRoy Allison, who died in December of 2009.
Stella, who in recent years was a resident of the Integrace Fairhaven Community in Sykesville Md., had lived as a child and young adult in Chevy Chase, Md., and later in Damascus, Md. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church where she was an active member and leader of United Methodist Women. She was an accomplished accordionist, beginning her career as an amateur entertainer as a soloist in Sylvia Kaplowitz’s all girl accordion band playing for the troops in USOs, hospitals, and camps during World War II. She continued entertaining many with accordion performances throughout her life, bringing pleasure and joy to many. She was active in her community—particularly as a volunteer in local politics and served a term on the Montgomery County Democratic State Central Committee. She enjoyed the company of many friends particularly when playing bridge or sharing the beautiful flowers from her garden.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, Stella is survived by four children: Stella A Schoen and husband David, LeRoy (Hap) Allison and wife Nancy, Thomas Allison and wife Kathy, and John Allison and wife Nancy; seven grandchildren: Mary Schoen and husband Marcelo Elizondo, Hannah Gorman and husband Andy, David Allison, Danika Millay and husband Kesed, Daniel Allison, John Allison and William Allison; one great grandchild: Lorenzo Elizondo and another one due in December. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Rose and husband Paul, sister-in-law Dorothy Allison, and four nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on August 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church Street, Damascus, MD 20872, with a reception for family and friends to immediately follow the service.
