Robert Frederick, Sr. Obituary

Robert M. Frederick, Sr. 85, of Germantown, Md. passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at home after a long battle with and complications of Lyme disease. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 22, 1932 to Colonel Leland M. and Mildred Stoer Frederick.

During Bob's early childhood his family moved many times as jobs, training, and army life dictated. The family settled in Tucson, Az., when Bob was in his early teens. He and his family had a relationship with Trinity Presbyterian Church of Tucson where he made many lifelong friendships. In 1954 Bob was graduated with a B.F.A. from the University of Arizona. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57. He worked many years in graphic arts, illustration, and design in AZ, Ohio, and the DC area. He taught graphic and commercial art part time. He retired in 1994 as the Art Director for the International Monetary Fund. He volunteered at the Newseum.

During his career he found time to help teach CPR. He also taught calligraphy and bridge. He was involved with Heart-to-Heart and several Lyme disease support groups. Bob was a MAAFS Judge, a Life Member at Montgomery Co. Fair, a beekeeper, a Master Gardner and a gentleman farmer. He enjoyed woodworking crafts and working on his autos. He was curious and interested in everything and became a sort of renaissance man. Of his many accomplishments, one of his proudest was that of obtaining his pilot's license. He also loved playing golf and he helped start several golf leagues. Bob was gifted with a love of people and a great sense of humor. He often had a joke or good story to tell.  His most recent undertaking was efforts to promote better handwriting skills in children.

He is survived by his adoring wife of 35 years, Bonnie Frederick; daughter, Patrice J. Smith (Marc), Bethesda, Md.; son, Robert M. Frederick, Jr. (Pisey) and a

granddaughter, Morgan, Great Falls, Va.; step-son Todd Stevens (Jacqueline), Olney, Md.; brother Richard Frederick, Phoenix, Az.; sister Sue Martin, Sapulpa, OK, many cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Jacqueline Meagher.
