Phillip Edward Smith of Gaithersburg, Maryland, passed away on September 6, 2017. He was surrounded by family and his beloved dog. Born April 4, 1923 in Lawrence, Massachusetts and raised in Cornish, Maine.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Sally Smith and three children, Reta Smith of Warrenton, Va., Lana Smith of Poolesville, Md., and Matthew Smith of Hollywood, Florida, and three grandchildren Cameron, Justin and Kristen Smith of Poolesville.

Phillip had a successful career in the Washington DC metro area but was most proud of his service in the U.S. Marines. He was an avid sports fan and shared his knowledge of sports and trivia with everyone.
