Nellie Ruth Terry, 74, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home Monday, August 22, 2016. Born June 13, 1942 in Anderson South Carolina to the late Berry and Ruth Edmonds.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Norman Terry Jr.   and brother Herman Edmonds.

She is survived by her brother Carl Edmonds and her two children Maria Inez DiGiovanni and Michael Anthony Flores, son-in law Louis DiGiovanni III, and daughter-in law April Flores.  She is also survived by five grandchildren (Michael Flores Jr., Amanda Burke, Louis DiGiovanni, Leah DiGiovanni, and Brandon Flores) and two great-grandchildren (Emmalyn and Rosalie Burke).

To Nellie Terry, family was everything.  You couldn’t help but love Nellie once you met her.  She was a friend, mother, and sister to all.  She went above and beyond for those she cared about.  While being a full-time mother and father to both her children she also held a full time career at Safeway for 40 years before retiring.  During those 40 years, she broke through barriers to become the first woman store manager on the East Coast.

She won several awards while creating pottery masterpieces.  She enjoyed beating her family in cards and any other game that people dared to play with her.  If she wasn’t playing cards or painting ceramics, you would find her reading and spending time with her family.  She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Sunday, August 28, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872.  Services and entombment will be held crypt side 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 29, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland.  Friends should assemble at the  mausoleum crypt by 10:15 a.m.
